And don’t forget to share your adventures on social media with #StanleyAtSea. Many of the most fascinating inhabitants of the ports you'll visit aren't human at all. Introduce them to your family, as Animal Planet™ presents some of the wildest meet-and-greet gatherings at sea — including Puppies in the Piazza on Alaska cruises, and Parrots in the Piazza in the Caribbean. Princess enables everyone in the family to find their place among the stars. If you're after fun on dry land (or at least when you're in port), MSC runs a Family Explorer program, which melds education with fun shore excursions that are designed to be interactive for the whole family. For a kid-friendly Alaska cruise, families on select Alaska sailings can embark on a search for Bigfoot (like the TV show "Finding Bigfoot") or participate in a crab-sorting challenge (inspired by "Deadliest Catch").

Rest assured, whether you've planned a day of exploring or a romantic night out, the group kidsitting at our Youth Centers offers your children between the ages of 3 and 12 plenty to look forward to. It's the perfect place for them to relax or play games with their friends. New on the Caribbean Princess®, the Reef Family Splash Zone is the perfect place to relax, have fun and enjoy the water. An interactive splash pad with giant whale feature will entertain kids of all ages with showers, sprays and a water jet from the whale's spout! Oversized backyard games in the all-ages game zone set the stage for some good natured family competition.
Plenty of cruise ships offer ocean view rooms; what differs ship to ship is the size of the window. Aboard Norwegian Encore, look at the Family Oceanview with Large Picture Window. This cabin ranges from 240 to 372 square feet, depending on ship location. It can sleep up to five people with two twins that convert to a queen and additional bedding for three more. Some cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line, have pioneered the concept of a "virtual" window in some of its interior cabins. The window is really a screen that shows a live feed from a camera onboard the ship and is meant to approximate the feeling of an ocean-view cabin without charging you for one.

There are also babysitting services available for parents who want to enjoy some time on their own. Beyond kids' clubs and pools, the most family-friendly cruise lines offer attractions and programs that kids and even parents can enjoy. Yes, cruise ships will have bars, casinos and night clubs that are not geared toward children, especially at night. (Sometimes, cruise ship staff will use a bar area for an activity like trivia during the day.) Some ships have adults-only pool or sun deck areas, where children are not permitted; look for signs. R-rated comedy shows and adult game shows are common, but these take place late at night and typically are marked 18+.
That includes the Ultimate Abyss slide, a 10-story light-and-sound filled drop that ends at the Boardwalk (children must be at least 43 inches tall to slide). The entrance is through the open jaws of a massive anglerfish -- probably the most terrifying part of the whole ordeal, as the ride is over in a matter of seconds. Take the family on a cruise to Alaska, where you’ll sail through the famous Inside Passage and witness the magic of towering glaciers and the stunning wilderness of the Last Frontier.
Animal Planet tours are ideal for parents and kids who want to see whales, sharks, sloths and other critters up close. The kids' clubs are outfitted with foosball, air hockey and even Skee-Ball. Teen cruisers can choose from sports tournaments, themed parties, dance classes and late-night movies. Norwegian's Splash Academy features separate activities for kids ages 3 to 5, 6 to 9 and 10 to 12.
Celebrity Cruises
Uniquely themed centers host engaging activities specially designed to help them play, huddle, create and discover. In addition to comfortable Mini-Suites and spacious Suites, larger groups can opt for a Family Suite which includes two interconnecting staterooms and sleeps up to eight on select ships. You'll also find big pool decks with water and light shows and poolside cabanas that are a great way to bond by the pool. On Norwegian Escape, The Haven includes two-bedroom family suites that sleep up to six passengers, and there are family mini-suites that feature bathtubs. Norwegian Epic has a 303-foot-long corkscrew tube and the Drainpipe, a 104-foot tube that empties into a giant funnel.
Cruises simplify the bulk of your vacation planning and transportation, as everything you need is in one convenient package. Onboard doctors don't take insurance, though you might be able to get reimbursed through your medical or travel insurance provider. To avoid high onboard medical bills, you might want to pack a thermometer and children's meds (Tylenol, Pedialyte, etc.) to bring with you so you can handle minor colds and fevers on your own. For Christmas, there are festive decorations; caroling and singalongs; Catholic Mass and interdenominational services; and a special visit from Santa Claus.
With elegant staterooms, world-class cuisine, and impeccable service, Princess Cruises offers travelers a truly royal experience. Sail to destinations all over the world aboard a Princess Cruise ship and enjoy all the amenities and activities onboard. The entire family can enjoy the ship’s many restaurants, shows, and live music. Carnival Mardi Gras also offers a variety of shore excursions for all ages. On the other hand, big cruise ships can be confusing for younger children to navigate and can feel more crowded during peak seasons. That can mean waiting in lines at elevators and eateries, moving through packed hallways and needing to reserve specialty restaurants and shows in advance.
You'll find one- and two-bedroom family suites and villas within The Haven. The Haven is available on the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus-class ships, Jewel class and Norwegian Epic. Luxury lines typically put on activities during summer and holiday sailings with an unusually high number of kids onboard, but only a few ships have dedicated play areas for children. River and expedition cruise lines might have specific family sailings, usually aimed at school-age kids, with special activities. Solid options include Adventures by Disney, in partnership with AmaWaterways, and Tauck's family-focused Tauck Bridges sailings.
If your kid has a smartphone, they can always contact you via the cruise line App. It is also a good idea to designate a special folder or wallet to store your documentation and decide who is the “keeper” of important documents. Even if you’re on a summer sailing to the tropics, pack a jumper if you plan to use the ice skating rink. Discover the magic of Alaska, where snowcapped mountains, towering forests and misty fjords dare you to deny their majesty. And cross once-in-a-lifetime experiences off your list together – on one unforgettable journey. Remember, the goal is to create a fun, safe, and memorable journey that your family will look back on fondly for years to come.
